Krista is a song writer who doesn't hold back, each and every song sounds like it's very personal to her. After listening to Krista you'll be left feeling that you had spent the last two hours flicking through the pages of her diary. This is because her songs all seem to be about very specific moments in Krista's life.
Krista plays a nylon strung guitar which produce a soft and graceful tone, this compliments her vocal style and makes her overall sound very laid-back. Krista is also very comfortable in front of an audience, between songs Krista is relaxed and speaks with the audience. During songs she makes great eye contact with every audience member, she has an amazing smile which immediately makes any audience member feel like they are her new best friend.
DO YOU GET NERVOUS BEFORE A GIG?
I used to suffer from nerves in the early days, I wouldn't be able to eat all day. I don't suffer now unless it's a really big gig or if I know someone important may be coming to see me, but as soon as I start playing I relax.
EXPLAIN HOW YOU BECAME A FULL TIME MUSICIAN?
I had a lot of different mundane jobs, I was never able to stick at anything for too long because I get bored and I love being creative. I decided to make the leap and become a full time musician. Recently the gigs are coming in more frequently, People are starting to call me asking me to play rather than me having to call them which is quite nice.
WHO HAVE YOU BEEN INFLUENCED BY?
KT Tunstall is a massive influence, like me she started her career busking and doing lots and lots of small gigs for years. I think that's the best way to go about it, just getting yourself out the there. The more you play the better you get and the better you get the more people seem to enjoy it.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PLAYING?
A friend at college taught me some guitar chords before I had my own guitar. Then on my 18th birthday I got a guitar. I loved it so much I would play it all the time, teaching myself to play from books. I got into song writing almost immediately and did my first gig within a year.
WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON PERFORMING FOR FREE?
I don't mind playing charity gigs they are always for free but are for a good cause. I haven't done an open mic for a while but if there is an opportunity to get a gig from doing an open mic at a new venue I would happily do it. The only downside is when you get a lot of musician who play for free some venues then don't want to pay.
