The Shaken Angels are a three piece modern rock band who write foot stomping tunes. Their master piece 'Harlequin' has been written in a way that slowly draws you into the song. It builds, gaining fury as the song progresses. Just as it reaches its climax the song is brought back to the style of its subtle intro and allowed to grow again. This light and shade approach gives the song two different personalities which is rather appropriate when you consider the song is titled 'Harlequin'.
Josh Lambert takes centre stage with his white bass guitar and lead vocals. On stage he has the energy of a toddler high on Haribos which leaves me wondering if this small stage will be enough to contain him.
Lewis Woods makes being a lead guitarist look easy, garnishing each song with riffs that punctuate the lyrics. James Woods provides good solid drumming keeping the band tight and together. If you watch our video closely you may see the bass drum start to roll across the stage. James is true professional and quickly resolves this with minimum disruption to the song. I must stress that the drum kit had been provided by the venue and not setup by the Shaken Angels. It is moments like these that remind me why I love live music, these moments only happen once they are memories that enrich our experience and give live music character which you will never get from a studio recording.
HOW DID YOU ALL MEET?
James and I (Lewis) are brothers, we met Josh during the last two years of school. We hit it off while discussing music, soon we decided to have a have a jam and before we knew it we had formed the Shaken Angels.
WHERE HAVE YOUR INFLUENCES COME FROM?
We (Lewis & James) have been playing from a very young age, our dad has been a huge influence. He was in a band back in the seventies, which meant we had many guitars around the house including a bass guitar and an old spanish guitar.
Josh: I have been heavily influenced by many people but the three main people who spring to mind are Jack White, John Paul Jones and Timothy Deaux from the Whigs.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR MUSIC?
We don't really know how to describe it, rock and roll maybe? We have been compared to Pearl Jam a few times, personally we try to lean in the direction of the Raconteurs.
DO YOU ALL DOWNLOAD MUSIC FROM PLACES LIKE ITUNES?
We all like to buy physical albums especially vinyl, we're all passionate about vinyl records and have a growing collection. We have acquired a lot from our dad, also charity shops, Amazon and Ebay are a fantastic resource for a lot of old records but you do need to hunt for them. One day we would love to release some of our own material on vinyl.
WHAT WAS THE LAST ALBUM YOU BOUGHT?
I (Lewis) bought a Joe Jackson LP which I found hiding in a charity shop. I absolutely love it, I often listen to it and think it's amazing.
HAVE YOU ANY FUTURE GIGS YOU'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO?
we will be playing at Lion Fest next year which we are really looking forward to. We played there last year which was great fun and very busy. This coming year is going to be even bigger because more people would of heard of last years success.
WHAT ARE YOU PLANS FOR THE FUTURE?
I (Lewis) have been studying music production at university, I have always had an interest in recording so I thought I would try to get a qualification which in turn will hopefully lead to a carrier in music. But I always want to play in a band.
